Useful Cloud Services for Engineering
D.L. Howell & Associates, Inc. uses many software packages to accomplish engineering tasks for our clients. In this article, I am going to talk about a new cloud based service we are now using to provide enhanced engineering services for our clients.
What is Google Drive?
Everyone knows Google… One of the services Google offers with their free GMail account is Google documents. Google documents allows you to create documents, spreadsheets, presentations, sketches and more online and right in your browser. All google documents are stored on Google servers.
Google just announced their long awaited "Google Drive" which is a cloud storage service provided by Google. If you already have a GMail account, then you can get access to your Google Drive now through your Google account.
So what do I get with Google Drive?
You can get up to 5GB of space for free, after which you can upgrade. It's $2.49/month for 25GB, $4.99/month for 100GB, and $49.99 a month for a whopping 1TB. If you move to a premium account it also automatically expands your Gmail storage to 25GB.

How we use Google Drive at D.L. Howell & Associates, Inc.

We use google drive to share documents, CAD file and Zip files with our clients. It is also very useful for saving a document to work on remotely, or even on an iPad or iPhone. Once you have installed Google Drive on your computer you will have a new drive letter you can just drag files into to upload to your Google Drive.
Google Drive makes life a little easier. I recommend checking it out.
